Making money is brilliant. Especially when you make money doing something you’re passionate about – serving others and having a real impact in this world.
But you know what’s even better than making money?
Keeping it!
What you DO with the money you make is way more important.
Which might sound stupidly obvious. But it’s true.
And it’s often massively overlooked, when we’re so focused on generating the revenue, chasing that next goal and bringing the money in.
None of us wants to look back 10 years from now, and think “I made £200k a year but where the hell did the money go?”
So once you are making money, it’s about having a plan to create assets and growth – tangible things to show for all your hard work.
And it’s about using that money to do all the things you want to do, and to feel the way you want to feel.
So what do you want?
We’ve talked before about the fun stuff – the things you want to do; places you want to visit; who you want to share it with and making memories.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with buying nice things! For me, I love luxury skin care and makeup (because using those products on my skin makes me feel good).
But money is best used as a tool to make your life better. To make the lives of your friends and family better – and to make the world better as a whole.
I use a vision board with my VIP clients. It’s not a shopping list, more a focal point representing your dream life. We aim for:
- 3-4 things to buy;
- 3 experiences or places to visit;
- And 3 things that represent the feelings you want to create.
It’s amazing what comes up! We use it to create a balanced picture of your dream life, and then put a plan in place to get there
To be clear – it’s not magic. It’s still going to need effort.
And you’re probably going to need some support. What if your friends or family think your dreams are fantasy, completely out of reach, because you earn more in a couple of months than they do in a year?
Or if you feel like you can’t share with them what you really want, or what you’ve got, because it feels uncomfortable? They just won’t get it and might even judge you for it?
You’ve moved on. And while you still love them (of course you do), it can definitely feel a bit lonely at the top.
I’ve talked about this before too – but one massive realisation for me over the last few years, is just how important is to have friends who ‘get’ it.
Friends who are on the same journey and at the same level as you.
Friends you can be totally honest with – who celebrate your wins, believe in your big goals and who you can share your success with, without ever feeling like you’re bragging or being judged.
People who can jump on a plane with you (on a total whim) and jet off somewhere hot for a few days of work and play, without money being an issue!
