Over the last 9 years since I joined the Financial Services industry, the thing I’ve really loved is being able to help people take charge of their finances – whether that means helping them get a mortgage to buy their first home, to fund home improvements or wipe the slate clean by consolidating their debts and gaining the breathing space that they need to start living life again.
I’ve always loved coming up with solutions, and creating action plans for those who my research indicated were not quite ‘in the right place’ financially to secure the loan that they needed – to then follow up months or years later and get their foot in the door (and the big smile on their faces).
But, it did lead me to the conclusion that many people are simply not in charge of their money, and don’t realise the consequences of regularly overspending, or using credit cards and loans in a way that looks good at the time, but can cause a massive headache later.
Financial Education in schools is only just coming onto the curriculum now, which means we have a whole generation of youngsters who have no clue about money, borrowing or even how to budget – which when added to easy access to un-secured credit can leave college leavers with a mountain of debt and a credit score that has dropped like a stone.
To be fair, many adults don’t understand their money either –
Our training courses give participants the skills to face the adult world, in an engaging way, relevant to today’s world and economic climate – the days of balancing a chequebook are long behind us!
Understanding your money and creating a financial plan is the first step on a journey that leads to long-term financial freedom – freeing up your time to pursue the things really important in life.
A while back, I came to the conclusion that I was not going to achieve my financial goals by continuing down the path I was on. I was fortunate to discover how to take charge and change to a course that would allow me to reach my goals.
This provided me the inspiration to expand upon my FCA –regulated role as an adviser to set up Peace Together and pull together the 4 parts of the jigsaw that will help others achieve their life goals in a holistic ‘person-centred’ way and have a positive impact on our local community and the world in general.
